Dressing Up to Stay In

“The clothes I wear at home don’t really matter that much.”

That’s an interesting story you’re telling yourself.

“Well, even my mom had clothes that she wore ‘around the house’ and close she wore when she went out.”

Oh, so you got the story from her then?

“Maybe! If you wear your nice clothes at home and you spill ketchup from a hot dog on them then they are ruined for when you go out with friends. Doesn’t it make more sense to wear something I don’t care about at home when nobody can see me?”

You can’t see yourself?

“Yeah, but I…don’t…matter. Fuck.”

I’ve started slowly getting rid of my clothes that I don’t like. I have an old soccer jersey from when I was 16 that I wear when I get a haircut or if I’m gonna paint something. I keep a pair of paints that I wouldn’t mind getting torn up by thorns or paint on them, but for the most part, I like my clothes and would wear them out.

I have a few that are so fancy they are slightly uncomfortable so those are reserved for special occasions.

In addition to dressing up for me I also do my hair up nice! I enjoy looking at myself in the mirror when I’m put together so I try to be most of the time. For me. It’s just a side benefit that I’m dressed up for other people too! ;)
